Parkhotel Laurin

We liked the hotel, and everything from the rooms to the extensive, fresh breakfast was great. The restaurant staff were friendly and attentive. Still, we're not sure we'd stay again because of the front desk service. We were a family of four in December and had booked two rooms. On arrival, reception felt cold and unfriendly, with little eye contact and no smile. At checkout, I waited while one staff member was on the phone and two others appeared busy. When someone finally came out, she served two Caucasian ladies who had arrived after me without checking who was first. Another employee was standing at the back doing nothing; when we made eye contact, she motioned for me to keep waiting for the colleague on the phone. I assumed she was new and still being trained, and perhaps hadn't learned to smile yet.

The room's balcony overlooked the courtyard, but it was directly above the smoking area. Events were set up and held just steps from my door, bringing enough noise to spoil what should have been a peaceful setting. I can't believe that room was classed as superior quality. The hotel and room have a nice nostalgic character, and the amenities were good. Still, the room location made it a bad experience at a hotel that otherwise seems good.

Breakfast was fantastic, and the hotel is undeniably beautiful and old-fashioned. The rooms need significant renovation, though. I gave service three stars because I was charged roughly €100 for an extra guest for one night, two people in a king room. The booking mistake was mine, I admit, but that kind of short-term, opportunistic approach to guests feels counterintuitive to me. On that basis alone, I wouldn't stay here again.

We had an incredible evening for our wedding at Park Hotel Laurin. Planning from the U.S. was easy thanks to Sylvia, Giovanna and Elena. The flowers, cake, food menu and wait staff were all just right, and the service was amazing. Thank you, park hotel Laurin!
