Messnerhof is a fantastic winery, with wonderful hospitality. I contacted Bernard to ask about a tour that day, and he made time for us later that evening. We walked there easily from downtown Bolzano. Bernard walked us through the winery’s history, the agriculture and chemistry behind the wine, the production process, and then the tasting. He showed us how he tastes wine, explained the food pairings for each one, and answered all our questions. It was my first wine tasting, and I couldn’t have been happier. Bernard was kind, funny, professional, and patient.

The wines were delicious, with distinct grapes, character, and flavors. You can feel the care and passion in both the wines and the beautiful winery and wine room. We had a wonderful tour, and Bernhard, the owner, was knowledgeable and charismatic.

We went home with a few bottles because the wine was such good quality and affordable. The tasting room is lovely, with valley views and a fireplace for winter. The owner was warm and generous with his time, showing us around the farm, explaining how it works, and happily answering all our questions. A great visit, thank you!

The wine tasting was outstanding, and we bought several bottles to bring back to the U.S. I only wish we could have taken home a few cases. We found Messnerhof Winery while looking for wineries to visit after rain changed our road trip from Garmisch to Bozen. When we arrived, Bernhard answered our call and said he'd be there in about five minutes. He'd been out harvesting in the vineyards. Bernhard was great, and it's a lovely place to visit if you're exploring wineries nearby. On the way back to Garmisch, we took the goat trail route, which had great scenery even in the cold rain.
