TH Borca di Cadore - Park Hotel Des Dolomites

We couldn't make the stay work because the access road closures added a huge detour. The hotel and booking sites describe Cortina d'Ampezzo as about a 10-minute drive away, but when road construction closures are in effect, the trip can take over an hour and a half. We couldn't find the closure schedule on any websites, and it seemed to us that this information was being kept from guests because it could hurt business. We needed to leave early for a sunrise hike, but the roads wouldn't reopen until 6:30 or 7 the next morning. Driving to the hotel after dinner and back out would have added three hours to our journey, so we had to book a last-minute room in town at an exorbitant price. The hotel then refused to refund our unused night. We also struggled to reach them when we needed clarification, with wrong phone numbers listed and poor customer service. The administration felt unscrupulous. I would give this place negative 10 stars if I could. Please be careful before booking; we found better accommodation and service at better prices elsewhere.

The mountain setting is lovely, with loads of nature around and a great view. The food was amazing and came out really fast. The staff were kind and funny too. I'd love to come back.

Having coffee on the balcony in the morning and looking out at the mountains was a real joy, and the view is outstanding. The staff were welcoming, and the dinner menu had some interesting choices. You can walk to the nearby town in about 30-40 minutes. There were some letdowns, though. Lawn mowers started up at 8 AM, and when we switched on the bathroom light, a very odd smell began spreading. The staff weren't sure whether it was normal. The rooms feel dated and cost too much for their quality, and the Booking photos look more polished than what you actually get. It's conveniently located, but for the price I wouldn't come back. Still glad my first visit to Dolomites included a stay here.

The hotel's history of more than a century gives it a distinctive charm, and having free parking made things easier for us. We also found the bathrooms in our room seemed newly refurbished, which gave the room a more modern feel. Breakfast was fantastic, with plenty to choose from, including scrambled eggs, ham, fruit, yogurt, and vegetables. The staff were extremely friendly and welcoming, and we had a wonderful stay. Highly recommend!
