Villa Francescon

Palazzo Francescon, also called Casa Francescon, is now a tourist rental with bedrooms and space for ceremonies and weddings. The building is a national monument, and its story goes back to the 14th century. The rectangular central section dates from that time; the wing along narrow Via Mazzini and the parts enclosing the courtyard were added later. It may originally have been a tower house, with the square-facing section and side wings built afterward. The palace belonged to the prominent, wealthy Barbuio family of the Zumellese community until Giovanni Battista Gaio acquired it in 1704. The Francescon family has owned it since 1883. It is the oldest residence in Mel's historic center, built on the foundations of a medieval tower house. The structure is complex, with several different parts. Its striking frescoes, restored after a beautiful renovation, can be seen as you enter the main square, Piazza Papa Luciani, from Via Roma, "la stretta." Behind the building is a large garden courtyard at a lower level than the square, and inside there is an ancient oven that still works.

We had a memorable stay in this historic residence. The spacious rooms were furnished with care and were impeccably clean. The owners were warm and helpful right away, sharing ideas for our days and even lending us their electric bicycles. There's also a lovely, well-kept garden where you can eat, relax, or read. Highly recommended for couples, families, and groups of any age.

I haven’t visited myself, but a friend told me it’s great.
