Phi Hotel Cavalieri

The price was extremely steep. We paid 1200 euro for three nights during the Bra cheese festival, and even taking the festival into account, that’s very expensive. Our room was worn and the air felt thick. The air conditioning could only be controlled from reception, which is ridiculous for a modern hotel, and the room was so hot at night we couldn’t sleep. When we called to complain, the receptionist was hostile and said the temperature was standard for Italian rooms and couldn’t be lowered. We politely asked for it to be lowered a bit so we could sleep, and she hung up without another word. The next morning, when we raised the issue again, we were offered a room change and told our air conditioning was malfunctioning. We asked for a discount because the room hadn’t worked properly, but were met with a dismissive attitude and excuses that they couldn’t refund amounts paid through hotels.com. hotels.com, by contrast, were very helpful and offered discount coupons as compensation. The bed linens were uncomfortable, and traffic and people outside made a lot of noise. The hotel advertised bike rentals, but had no bikes when we asked. They also claimed there was a shuttle bus into town, but we couldn’t find it. The hotel’s location was inconvenient and far from the town center. Breakfast was very sub-par for such an expensive hotel. My partner has celiac disease and needs gluten-free food, but had a very hard time finding anything besides crackers and cookies. It was an unpleasant stay with very little sleep, especially at that price.
