Hohe Gaisl

The sauna and pool were excellent. We had a wonderful two-night stay, with a fantastic view from room 103 after staff moved us there. Room 101, where we were first placed, had neither WiFi nor cell signal. The staff took responsibility for making sure the kitchen prepared plant-based meals for us, especially at dinner. There were enough regular vegan options at breakfast too. Hopefully we'll return soon.

The setting is wonderful, at 2.000mt in a valley with just two other buildings, both restaurants open only during the day. At night you get the full quiet of nature. Croda Rossa, 3.000mt high, is right in front, and nearby Monte Cristallo is just as beautiful and also 3.000mt. The landscape is marvelous, and you can walk to panoramic trails in winter or summer. Rooms are clean and comfortable, and the staff are friendly and ready to help. The wellness area has several kinds of sauna and is lovely. Common-area furnishings are a bit old-fashioned, though in good shape. In winter the hotel can be hard to reach, since the last 500 meters of road are usually icy.

I only stopped in for lunch, so I can't judge the hotel itself. The service was friendly and good, but the knödelsuppe was so watery it should've been called "knödelwasser." It was far too much money to pay for water.

After multi-day hiking in the Dolomites, this is exactly the kind of place you could want: great food, friendly staff, comfortable clean rooms, and a nice bio-sauna on pine cones. The views and location are superb. The building and interiors feel authentic, a bit like Stephen King’s The Shining, in a good way. Easily a four stars one.
