Hotel Lo Stambecco

The staff were friendly and helpful at reception, in the restaurant and in the wellness area. Thanks for the kind welcome. My renovated room and bathroom looked very good, and from the bed there was a nice view of Klein Matterhorn. The spa went beyond what we expected: it had a sauna and jacuzzi, and my favourite was the cold water shower from the bucket overhead. It was included in the price, but you had to add your room to a list in the morning for a 30 minute slot. The location is the main draw. The hotel is near Matterhorn (Cervinia-italian)-4478m and lake Goillet, where the trail around it is really worth doing for the mountain views. The cable car goes from Breuil-Cervinia(2000m) to Plan Maison(2550m), with the station there inside the hotel, and the ride from Breuil-Cervinia was free for guests. From there it continues to Laghi(2884m), then Plateau Rosa(3500m), where you cross into Switzerland and take the cable to Klein Matterhorn(3883m), the highest point in Europe. I’d read mixed comments beforehand, but what I experienced exceeded expectations, so I’d definitely recommend it. It isn’t high class, but the location makes up for the fancy style some people want. The room insulation wasn’t great, though that depends on your neighbours, and a mini-fridge would be useful.

We spent a week here in February. The staff are warm and friendly, and the food is excellent with lots to choose from. The rooms are a bit cramped, but each one has a sauna for two, which is great for easing or preventing aches and pains. It works well for both kids and adults.

I tried calling for three days to ask about the hotel and make a reservation. Nobody picked up until I kept trying, and the person who finally answered was very unprofessional. Booking.com and other platforms showed reservations available, but I was told the websites were wrong, the hotel was closed until October 30th, and I should go somewhere else. I’m giving everything one star out of five because I can’t give less.

The dinner gave six of us serious food poisoning. We were vomiting and had fevers for over 24 hours. The rooms were dirty too, with mold in some showers and a strong smell of smoke as soon as you entered some of them. DO NOT APPROACH.
