Helimos Bed & Breakfast

We could see the ancient Greek Temple at Segesta from the house at any hour, from daytime through the night. Our stay there was a welcome change after the rushed, busy parts of our trip around Italy. The house has a striking feature: a huge rock runs into the kitchen, and I’m not sure why it was built that way, but it makes the place feel unique. There’s also a spot above the house with a better view of the surroundings and sky. The nearby little farm seemed to grow some kind of grain, though I’m only guessing. Three cute local cats were around, and other guests were friendly and easygoing. A gardener came by now and then to trim and care for the plants. The room had only basic facilities, which suited us as a break from city life. Pets are welcome, too. Getting there can be tricky. Driving yourself would be easier, or you could take a taxi. The bus is another option, but we found it confusing and only figured it out on our last day in Segesta. Everything moves slowly and quietly here, and we enjoyed the lovely breakfast our host made. She was friendly, kind, and dependable. One night there was a terrible wildfire. The host drove us at midnight to evacuate to another hotel she knew, so we could stay safe for the night. We didn’t expect her to bring us back to her apartment in the morning and make us breakfast at 8:30am. That was incredibly kind and reliable of her, especially when she must have been exhausted.
