The room, especially the bathroom, was moldy and smelled bad. They had put in a strong fragrance dispenser to cover it, so the air smelled like a mix of mold and artificial scent. Maybe you could put up with it if the air conditioning stayed on. With the windows open, though, a quiet night was out of the question. The walls and seals were thin enough that we heard the neighbors, and “elevator” music played in the garden from early morning until late at night. I opened the windows facing the hotel entrance, where they also had tables. At 11 p.m. the music was still going outside, making it hard to sleep. I went downstairs to explain the smell and why I needed to open the windows, and the owner said it was just pleasant ambience music he’d played for the last 25 years. The conversation became emotional and upsetting. In the end, I got a different room and the music was switched off, but the owner quickly labeled me “violent,” which felt like a way to silence me instead of dealing with the disruption. A group of four older German guests drinking on the patio weren’t happy about the music stopping. When they saw me open the new room’s windows, they made nasty comments. The owner seemed more inclined to ignore what was happening than resolve it. I can understand that guests drinking outside may be more profitable than guests who just want to sleep, and that might explain why he defended the late music and the drunken Germans, even though their behavior toward the person who ended their late-night party felt racist and like bullying. I’ve stayed in many hotels in the area, and this was by far the worst. I left very unhappy about the mold, the smell, the noise, and the unpleasant experience of trying to improve those miserable conditions.
The staff were exceptionally welcoming, and the free bikes were a great way to explore during the day. We were also close to local attractions, with good connections to nearby cities. One of our best hotel stays ever. 10/10, we’ll visit again. Love from Finland!
The owners clearly put a lot of work into this charming place, and everyone on staff went out of their way to make us feel comfortable from arrival to departure. The food was excellent, especially breakfast, with plenty of real food to choose from instead of the industrial stuff you find in many places. There’s even a quiet, relaxing front garden, a rare treat in such a busy seaside town. I can’t find a single fault. We were lucky to find it, and I hope we’ll be back soon.
We decided to book this place while weighing up whether to go for something cheap or luxurious for a day by the sea. The villa was built by an artist in the early 20th century, and many original details remain, while the rooms have modern facilities. It’s full of charm, with surprises around every corner. The shady garden is lovely for relaxing, and the seaside is about a five-minute walk away, close but still peaceful. Everyone working there was friendly and helpful. A great place.
The hotel has plenty of character and the basics are covered, including a shower, toilet, bed, storage, and a smart cooling system in each room. The staff are charming, the setting is beautiful, and the service is great. The private beach is only a few minutes on foot, and there are nearby cities to visit if you feel like doing something cultural. A good choice for a few peaceful days. *****
