Hotel Ristorante Benigni

We booked directly because we could only get an apartment, and it cost more. After walking the via Francigena, we were tired and found our apartment hadn’t been cleaned and smelled of cigarette smoke. We told the waitress covering reception. After several phone calls, she said it would take an hour, so we waited in the restaurant and ordered a small salami and cheese platter. An hour later, the receptionist told us we could move into the adjacent apartment, which had apparently been available the whole time. Communication was very poor, and there wasn’t even an apology. Then they charged us 19.50 Eu for the meagre antipasto plate. We didn’t eat there that night. A simple apology would have helped, but this was the worst experience of our via Francigena walk.

The food was delicious, the best we’ve had in this area over the last week. The restaurant is charming, with a high ceiling and lots of paintings on the walls.

The rooms are neat and clean, maybe a little dated, but not by much. It’s well located, with several bars and places to eat right nearby. If you’re walking the via Francigena, it’s just past the old village section, after you go under the old porta, or gate. The WiFi works great. The hotel entrance is down the driveway on the left side of the building, and there’s parking behind it.

The food tasted great and was incredible quality, with excellent service. The place was clean and the tables were set very nicely. 100% recommend.
