La Spiga

We found the place very welcoming, and it’s close to the city center. The owners were kind, our room was clean, and parking is inside the property. I’d happily recommend it.

This might work if you’re just passing through, but I wouldn’t choose it for a holiday. Check-in was handled with the bare minimum of staff, and there’s little in the way of amenities. The only vending machine is in another building, while the Wi-Fi was weak and cut off after an hour, even once we’d logged in. There’s no breakfast on site, and the closest café is far enough away that you need public transport. A kettle with tea and instant coffee in the room would have helped.

The staff were warm and friendly, and the room was clean and simple. It’s a handy place for a one-night stop if you have a car, though the soundproofing could be better.

Public transport nearby made getting to the city center easy, about 30 minutes. The room itself was reasonably clean, but very basic and dated, and breakfast wasn’t included. For €99, I expected more. The old, soft mattress really needed replacing, and a few more amenities or a better room would have made the price easier to accept. I know Florence and the surrounding area are expensive, but I wouldn’t stay here again. It’s hard to believe there isn’t somewhere better nearby for the same money.
