Blucamp

The camp was very clean, and the desk staff were lovely and helpful. There was a freezer and free cold running water. Our pitch had nice shade and nearby electricity, but the rooster noise early in the morning and dogs barking a lot made it kinda loud. It’s a shame you can’t park right on your pitch. The big drawbacks were the showers, where the water took a long time to warm up and never got hot, and the poor mobile signal and very weak WiFi at our pitch. Maybe check the signal before accepting a pitch. The location is okay, fairly near the beaches, though the steep site makes it hard to maneuver a car.

The best part of Blucamp is the staff. They’re welcoming, helpful, and friendly, so we booked an extra night. It’s a calm, relaxing spot with what you need, and while it’s rustic rather than fancy or modern, everything was kept clean. The food and drinks were great and very reasonably priced. We found an ideal private pitch when we arrived three nights ago, shaded from the hot sun. Pitches near the top can use the free WiFi. From the pool, bar, and restaurant there are beautiful views across the hills to the sea. The showers are tepid, but that’s enough in this heat, especially this early in the season. We’re sitting with a drink now, listening to crickets. The hunting dogs next door bark occasionally, but nothing like another review made it sound. Supermarkets are a short drive away, and there are nice beaches nearby. Today we went to the thermal spas at Calidario Therme, seven minutes away. It isn’t free, but it was a luxurious day out.

The campsite sits on a hillside with a nice view over the valley, and it’s a 15 minute drive to the sea. There’s a good pizza restaurant and a nice swimming pool. There’s enough shade for tents and sitting areas, plus a refreshing sea breeze, so it doesn’t get really, really hot. The toilets are clean, and the shower heads are a little outdated but work well. Bring earplugs. Across the valley, about 3/4 houses have dogs that bark day and night for around 10 minutes every hour. Then two roosters get going at 4 in the morning and keep at it until 7.

We had a quiet, peaceful stay at the top of the hill, with ocean views and vineyards all around. The village Campiglia Marittima is a hidden gem, just a 15 minute walk away. The spaces are good, and when we visited at the end of June, we mostly had the pool to ourselves. The staff were friendly. The bathroom facilities and restaurant menu could use some improvement, but those are little things. I loved this place.
