The location is central, right by the ski bus stop, and Col Rodela lift is a five minute walk away. The spa is included and open from 3 to 8 pm. It has a sauna, steam bath, jacuzzi and two showers, with room for up to eight people. Nothing special, but it’s enough to relax after skiing. The ski room is cramped at busy times, has no lockers and not enough free boot dryers. Getting breakfast was another struggle: the selection was basic, with eggs, one cheese, two types of ham, bread, croissants, cake and cereal, and they often ran short. The coffee machine broke several times, so staff made coffee at the bar. The reception staff seemed completely indifferent at check-in and check-out. I had to find the elevator myself while the woman checking me in was already leaving for home. The hotel felt average and overpriced, with old furnishings and service below what I expected. It may have been a great choice years ago, but I wouldn’t recommend it now unless there’s no other option. The price to service ratio feels at least twice too high. This was my sixth stay in Compitello, and my poorest hotel experience there.

The hotel is only 200 metres from the lift, and I liked the sauna, whirlpool and shower bathroom. Food was hit or miss. Some meals were excellent, while others had to be sent back and replaced. The Wi-Fi requires a login through a registration page, which sometimes fails. The connection also expires if you don’t keep a browser window open on the status page. I don’t understand why hotels set it up this way; securing the network and providing a QR code would be simpler. The ski room is beside the large garage, and the route in and out goes over a sloping ramp, which is tricky in ski boots.

We had a three person room with a separate little room for the third bed, which was nice. It was warm and there was loads of hot water, though the shower was a bit small. The staff were welcoming, and the hotel, restaurant and bar areas felt comfortable. There’s a vegetarian option at every meal. I’d come back, so don’t let the negative reviews put you off.

The meals were generous and the Italian food was good, with lots of choice at both breakfast and dinner. The staff we met at check-in and in the restaurant were all friendly, helpful and professional. The room and spa matched what we expected. I’d read reviews on Google and Trustpilot before our week here and was quite worried, but once we arrived, everything was great. I’d happily book here again if I’m in the area.
