Villa Mattera

The house is spacious, and the garden gives the children room to play. Its spot between the beach and town center is fantastic, and Marina di Campo is a lovely little town and a good base for exploring Elba. For the price, though, we came away disappointed. The interior and furnishings need attention. Wi-Fi was unusable and seemed to contain malware, with clicks taking us to casino sites. The dishwasher barely worked, so we washed most things by hand, and the plates, cutlery, glasses and cups were either too few or in bad shape. The very musty sofa had holes, the table was much too high for its chairs, and screws were loose on nearly all the chairs, so sitting on them felt precarious. There were no cushions for the garden furniture either. We contacted the landlord several times asking for improvements. Each time, we were told someone would come and sort things out, but nobody ever did.

The large garden made Villa Mattera a good fit for anyone with small children, and the villa has plenty of space and rooms. It's right by the sea in Marina di Campo, and the Island of Elba is beautiful. We stayed for a week in early September and had a good time. The furniture and bathrooms are a little old. The apartment was dirty when we arrived, so we had to clean it ourselves, and nothing was taken off the final price. That's my only complaint.

Inside, everything is a little dated, though it all still works very well. The house itself is large, beautiful and clean, and the location is just right for a holiday in Marina di Campo.

It was a quiet, pleasant place to stay, right by the beach.
