Agriturismo il Portico

Lunch at the Il Portico farmhouse in Capalbio was for six of us. We liked the relaxed, roomy setting, with its lovely garden, pool, and indoor and outdoor dining areas. The food was tasty and well prepared, the house red was decent, and the value seemed good. What spoiled it was the timing. Four tortelli with Chianina beef ragù came out promptly, but the pappardella with wild boar and the pici with artichokes and pancetta arrived around 20 minutes later. We ended up eating at different times, which was frustrating and really not okay for a group lunch. I don't know what went wrong in the kitchen, but that kind of service undermines the whole meal. The food was good, but the organization needs work. I don't think I'll return.

Everything we tried was delicious, from the appetizers and excellent prosciutto to the tender, flavorful beef steaks. The ricotta and sour cherry tart was especially mouth-watering. The staff were incredibly friendly too.

Capalbio is about 7 km away, so the location worked well for us, and there's a swimming pool at the B&B. The rooms are very clean and tidy, with a woman coming each morning to clean who was also lovely and very kind to guests. The food was very good, especially the meat, and the service was courteous and professional. We'd repeat the experience.

I stumbled across it on The Fork and was pleasantly surprised. The staff were so helpful, and the appetizers were delicious. The wild boar pappardella was really well made. Just writing about it is making me hungry again. Definitely recommend.
