We tried their wine as well, and it was excellent. Dinner at Macchiabuia restaurant was amazing, from the perfectly cooked Tuscan food to the very good service. The glasshouse setting beside vineyards and olive trees is beautiful. We’ll definitely be back 🤩

At €50 a person, dinner wasn’t worth it. The apple crumble was dried out and served in a tiny bowl about the size of a coffee cup, and the other dishes were mostly mediocre. My pasta with garlic, oil, and chili had chopped raw shrimp on top, but the shrimp added no flavor to the plain pasta. One guest felt unwell. Someone hurriedly left a blood pressure monitor on the table, but no one checked if anything else was needed. There were six of us for dinner on Sunday, two days ago. The place itself is objectively beautiful, with an authentic, chic Maremma feel. The man describing the menu came across as a bit affected. Sea bass in a crust was one of the dishes we ordered, but after ten minutes they said it wasn’t available and switched it to snapper. Ten minutes later, that still hadn’t arrived either.

Such a shame, because the place is really nice. We came for Easter lunch after visiting two years ago, and this time it fell well short, especially for the prices. There seemed to be just two inexperienced waiters for a 15-table pub, and the kitchen probably wasn’t sized for the crowd. That meant waits of nearly an hour. The worst part wasn’t even the delay, but that the owner never came by to apologize while people around us were clearly disappointed. Anyone can have a bad day, and a smile, genuine apology, or maybe a quick coffee offered would go a long way with most guests. Apparently that’s not their style. One detail that sums up the service: I ordered bubbles with finger food, and the drinks arrived 45 minutes after the food ;-)

Two hours passed before any of our food arrived, and when it did, everything was cold and poor quality. The staff seemed like field workers pulled in and left to improvise, and the bill was inflated too, with dishes charged that never came. The beautiful Tuscan countryside setting shouldn’t fool you, dinner turned into a nightmare. Never again. And don’t be misled by my name, I was born in Italy and think I know how to eat.
