Casa Augusto

The best part was the peaceful garden setting and breakfast terrace, with a lovely view of the garden and sea. Augusto lives upstairs, and the three B&B rooms are downstairs in the garden. The rooms aren’t especially modern, but they’re clean and tidy, everything was in good condition, the AC worked perfectly, and there was plenty of storage. Our room was large, though the bathroom was small. Breakfast was simple but a really nice start to the day: croissant, fresh bread, boiled eggs, yoghurt, juice, and coffee. The location is great, about ten minutes on foot to the city centre. From there, the cable car takes five minutes down to Marina Grande. Marina Picolo is a quiet, marvelous beach, five minutes downhill and about ten minutes back up. Capri has lots of steps, so you need to be reasonably mobile. If you have more than hand luggage, book porters to bring your bags from the port. Augusto and his mother were fantastic, friendly, and full of helpful island tips. The rooms are close together, though, and sometimes we could hear other couples talking, just the noise and not the words. We only wish we’d stayed longer.

The garden and terrace are lovely, there are only three rooms, and it’s pretty quiet with a nice view and close to Capri city. The son is friendly, speaks English, and helps quickly. Breakfast is homemade with good local ingredients, especially the tasty croissants. Everything was very, very clean. There were a lot of problems, though. The Wi-Fi didn’t work all week. The toilet flush broke, so we had to use a bucket for one night, though it was fixed the next day. We were overwhelmed by mosquitoes, which bit us within the first ten minutes in the garden. The humidity was high, everything felt wet, and our clothes wouldn’t dry. The baby bed cost 15€ per night. There are endless steps to the hotel, and even more down to the tiny beach called Piccola marina. We’d take the bus back up. The owner seemed very offended when I asked her not to move heavy furniture above our room at night. She even yelled at my five-year-old son once and didn’t speak to us again for the rest of the week. We were advised to leave with our two little kids if we dared say anything more. We paid 136€ per night in October, which is okay for Capri, but there are equal or better places in Anacapri at that time for less money and with a more convenient location.

On the pretty pedestrian-only via Mulo, just a short walk from the main street, via Roma, this is a charming little B&B. Augusto brings breakfast to your private patio in the backyard garden. I’d happily stay here again!
