Casale Marittimo itself is beautiful and well worth visiting, but our stay at this accommodation ruined the experience for us. The owner's attitude and the way the place is described were both major letdowns. We came away feeling the description was misleading, and other reviews seem to describe similar experiences, so read them carefully. The promised rich homemade breakfast wasn't served at the accommodation. Instead, we got a voucher for a village cafe with a limited, simple selection. The kitchen and pool were also described misleadingly. The pool is about 1km away, roughly a 20-minute walk, and wasn't easy to find. There is no private parking, only a nearby public lot. The owner told us it was free 24/7, but on our second day we got a €40 ticket for parking incorrectly. The room was generally as pictured and fairly charming, but its quality and cleanliness were no better than average. There was no Wi-Fi or AC, the bathroom was old and poorly maintained, and there was no information about the surroundings or farm. On both mornings, the farm's two dogs started barking continuously at 6 am and made it impossible to sleep. We were shocked by the lack of hospitality. Our contact with the supposed owner was brief and cold. She came through a door with a card reader, without greeting or introduction, and asked for payment. She ignored our question about seeing the room first. After we paid, she pointed out the nearby public lot and disappeared. We had no further direct contact, not even at checkout.

I was looking forward to eating here, but half the dishes I tried were bland and uninteresting. The vegetarian balls and burger were especially disappointing, with hardly any flavor, which surprised me given the fresh, local, organic ingredients. The dessert was interesting, though overdecorated. I'm glad I came back for another dinner, because the pasta was excellent, especially the homemade kind. I'd usually give a three-star rating for a 50/50 experience like this, but as a Bib restaurant I think they should do better.

We had two wonderful evenings here, with delicious food and great wine. It's one of my favourite places in Tuscany. The menu has vegan options, including homemade pasta with fresh tomatoes from their garden, tofu in lemon, and even vegetable cutlets. The staff were warm and attentive.

The outdoor porch was the highlight of our dinner: peaceful, with an astonishing view across the Tuscan valley, and beautiful fireflies after dark. The service was great. Our waiter helped us choose, answered all our crazy questions, and the food and menu arrived quickly. The food was high quality. They make their own pasta, according to the menu, and even make most of the ingredients they use, including the oil. The menu combines typical Tuscan dishes with more original combinations. Just note that there's a daily menu with a full vegetarian meal and a full non-vegetarian meal, each with antipasto, primo, and secondo, plus a very limited à la carte selection. If you have specific dietary requirements, you may want to arrange things ahead of time. Casale Marittimo is beautiful to visit, and the restaurant's quiet porch and view are just as lovely. I'd suggest calling ahead if you plan to eat here.

We spent a lovely evening and night at Fattoria della Gioiosa while road-tripping through Italy. The hotel sits in the beautiful setting of a Tuscan village, and the bedroom had everything we needed.
