B&B Corte San Giuseppe

Casarano is a good choice if you want peace and quiet during the hot months, while still being about equally far from the Ionian and Adriatic coasts. I stayed in June and had a spacious, cool room with a vaulted ceiling and access to a small, well-kept garden. Walter and his wife, Loredana, were welcoming and kind, as you often find in Salento. If I return to Casarano, I know where I’ll stay. I’d happily recommend it to anyone looking for both the sea and some quiet.

The owners weren’t rude, and I want to be clear about that. But being able to host is another matter. They left us in the room before we had time to point out that it wasn’t a family room, or to mention the damp, musty smell. We were four, and could have used wider counter space, a window, a hairdryer, and at least access to a microwave, which we needed but didn’t have in the room. From the photos, we definitely seem to have got the least welcoming room. It also had no bidet, which appears to be common throughout the place. The place itself may be okay, but the lack of comfort was a problem for us. Two beds, packaged snacks, and a pod coffee machine with no instructions don’t seem enough to call it a B&B. Hospitality can’t be improvised or made up for by asking how we found it.

Really welcoming, friendly people and a fantastic location. Breakfast is at the partner café on the corner, with coffee and pastries or something else. Super!
