Agriturismo Erta

Mr. Varno and his wife made us feel very welcome at this one-table-per-evening dinner. The food was divine, fresh, local, and served at an easy pace over many courses. Mr. Varno explained each dish and how it connected to the farm, and offered wine made from the grapes we could see. He picked the cherry tomatoes for our salad just minutes before they reached the table, some of the best I've ever tasted. Before dinner in August 2024, we toured his beautiful winery and gardens, then sat on a covered private patio overlooking the vineyard as the sun set. This was a uniquely special experience I'll remember all my life, and I'm grateful to Mr. Varno and his family for welcoming us into their home.

We’ve eaten in hundreds of places around the world, but Erta and the dinner with Varno stand out as unique. The experience at his stunning home was humbling and unforgettable: the views, the wine, and the pure, authentic, fresh food from his estate, along with the personal welcome from Varno as owner, chef, and host, and from his family. In Commedia Dell’arte, il Dottore is the wise, knowledgeable figure, often set apart from the younger generation, especially on wine, food, and philosophy. Varno is such a warm, welcoming host and an absolute treasure. The restaurant is my family's favorite anywhere in the world. Its setting and view are spectacular, while the food is simple and made with fresh local ingredients, and the atmosphere is casual and relaxed. We visit Tuscany often, and booking a table here is the first thing we do after arranging a trip.

We’ve been to Erta twice and plan to come back. It’s peaceful, with a splendid view, nice rooms, and a friendly, familiar atmosphere. Varno makes lovely wine and is a brilliant cook.
