Podere Il Castellaccio

My girlfriend and I loved the intimate tour through the beautiful vineyards. The atmosphere was truly amazing, and the wines are very good, with some nice stories behind their names. What an experience!

After a nearby winery recommended this place for a tasting, we were so glad we came. Up in the hills, in a little microclimate, it’s a beautiful place run by two wonderful people. They welcomed us into their home at short notice and took time to explain their philosophy. They’re intelligent and kind, with real spirit and passion for their work. They make fresh, elegant, distinctive wines in Bolgheri. I really respect their focus on Italian grapes, including a great blend and a very interesting 100% pugnitello made in tiny quantities. Another wine is skillfully blended with Cabernet Franc, a real labor of love from their slopes. They also grow bush vines in a distinctive way. If you love unusual wines made with care by clever, exceptional people, you should visit Alessandro and his wife. Their Orio, named after their dog, is exceptionally delicious too. I expect great things from this duo. Vigneron Winemaker to watch!!!!

We had a lovely time at Podere Il Castellaccio. Walking through the vineyards came first, followed by a tasting at the relais. The setting was quiet, surrounded by greenery.

We had a great time, with plenty of privacy in our room/house and a beautiful view. The air conditioning worked very well, and the small kitchen had everything we needed. Though the Podere is secluded, the beach and supermarket are just ten minutes away, and there are lots of restaurants nearby. The Wi-Fi didn’t work for us, and the internet connection was poor in general. There’s a campsite at the end of the valley, where a rather loud entertainment program runs every evening for about an hour.
