Masseria Rocca di Gonato

Chef Lauro Mansino is excellent, and the food is really nice.

Excellent!

We stayed at the masseria as guests at a wedding reception and had a fantastic experience. Santino, Giusy, and Caterina welcomed us so warmly that we felt at home right away. It’s a lovely atmosphere, and it’s rare to find hosts who make you feel like family. They did that brilliantly! Our room was very clean and tidy. The property is splendid too, though clearly showing its age. Still, Santino, Giusy, and Caterina make it feel worthy of any high-class establishment. Up in the mountains, unexpected things can happen, but the three of them stay calm and try to sort out every request with a smile. I’ve stayed in other mountains several times and have to say these hosts are truly wonderful. The road down to the village is a little dark, and there’s local wildlife, but neither is a bother. Absolutely recommended.

After finding the room dirty, with cobwebs, spiders, millipedes, and a family of geckos, I asked Mrs. Giusy to help. She said she didn't know what to do about the geckos, and there wasn't another room available. My wife and children, aged 6 and 9, wouldn't sleep in a room with them. It was already past 8:00 PM, so I asked her to rebook us somewhere else in the same area or better. She said she didn't know anyone, it wasn't her job, and the problem was mine. When I said I thought this should be her concern, she told me I shouldn't even be allowed to complain. I took my money and left.
