Il Conte Farmhouse Retreat

We spent 16 days at Il Conte Farmhouse in July and August. The house is beautiful, tastefully furnished, and in an idyllic setting, but several problems would have changed our decision to book had we known about them. At almost €900 a night in high season, it was definitely not worth the price to us, despite having stayed in many very comfortable holiday homes. The garden furniture was dirty, the cushions had mold on them, and the daybed was broken. The pool was also not cleaned during our stay. A 16-day military exercise, with military aircraft and helicopters flying low every 10 minutes, stirred up a lot of dirt. We could skim leaves off the surface, but anything that sank stayed there. The pool layout makes it unsuitable for guests with disabilities. You can enter by two narrow steps that lead straight into 1.40 m of water, or use a staircase, but there’s nowhere to stand on its steps in the pool. The water starts at 1.40 m and gets deeper quickly, so an average-height adult can no longer stand after about two meters. It’s fine for swimming, but not for playing with small children. The two upstairs rooms described as master bedrooms were extremely noisy. We could hear every sound from the neighboring room and even talk through the walls and understand each other. Toilets, coughs, and throat-clearing all came through clearly and badly disrupted our sleep. In our view, the lack of soundproofing makes the house unsuitable for couples or families, and the pool is unsuitable for families with small children.
