The location is wonderfully scenic, with grape and olive fields all around. We even got to see the olives being harvested. It’s also a short drive to Siena, San Gimignano, and other places for day trips. Our apartment was spacious, felt authentic with its stone walls and wooden furniture, and had all the amenities we needed. The heating worked perfectly in the cold off-season. The beds could use more comfortable mattresses, but they weren’t too bad. We were glad we’d brought our own shampoo and soap, since none were provided, perhaps because the rooms had been prepared in a hurry. Before we arrived, communication was poor and no one answered our calls. When we got there in the evening, it wasn’t clear which door to knock on, and the hosts seemed surprised to see us. They politely asked us to wait ten minutes while they got the rooms ready, using Google Translate. Virgilio doesn’t speak English, but his kindness and politeness came across despite the language barrier. Be patient. To me, that even added to the authenticity of this remote place.
