Relais La Font

The Castelmagno Gnocchi were sublime, and we especially enjoyed the warm Pumpkin Flan with Bagna Cauda. Every dish was delicious, beautifully detailed, and so good we wanted seconds. The staff were really kind and attentive, and the place itself was quaint and beautiful. We stopped for lunch before heading to the nearby Sleddog experience, and we’ll definitely be back. Compliments to the whole team!

For €28 per person, the portions were generous and everything we tried was delicious. We went to La Font for lunch as a couple after a sled dog lesson in Castelmagno. The restaurant has a special arrangement with the activity, offering a set menu with an entrée, cold and hot appetizers, a first course, and dessert, as well as its regular à la carte menu. Since we love food, we chose the set menu: crostini with salsa verde and anchovies, fresh goat cheese with artichoke hearts and tomato, pumpkin flan with bagna cauda, gnocchi with Castelmagno cheese, then either bonet or panna cotta with pandoro. Recommended.

The veal with tuna sauce was superb, and the gnocchi with Castelmagno cheese were just as good. It’s a beautiful spot at the foot of the Castelmagno Sanctuary. We only had dinner, but I’d love to stay there someday.

When I visit the Sanctuary of San Magno, stopping here is a must. The staff are helpful and always willing to listen. You can try typical dishes from the Grana Valley and the Varaita Valley at this mountain pasture: Castelmagno rennet ravioli and gnocchi, hand-sliced raw beef with porcini mushrooms or Castelmagno, fried mushrooms when they’re in season, and pork shank with smoked mash. The menu is €25, though I recommend ordering à la carte because the prices are very attractive. Pick your own bottle of wine. I recommend the Nebbiolo Oberto.
