Villa Giutitta

Our stay here put a bit of a damper on a Sicily trip we’d been looking forward to. Check-in is only from 4 to 9 pm, and there’s a large late arrival charge. Our flight was delayed, so we got there at 9:45 and were charged 150 euros. I thought that was ridiculous. Getting to the house also takes some getting used to: it’s at the top of a very long, winding hill, a 15-20 minute drive up. There were eight of us, and although there are four bedrooms, one had a daybed along with the main bed. We were told sheets for the daybed would cost an extra 35 euros a day. That seemed absurd. What if someone in our group didn’t want to share a bed? The stove wasn’t working, but they replaced it the next day. The downstairs toilet was leaking, and apparently they came to fix it after we’d left. The furniture looked a bit worn and very secondhand, as did many of the kitchen utensils and items, so cooking proper meals would be difficult. There were some good points: the pool was lovely, the outdoor seating areas were nice, and they gave us a useful little list of things to do and places to eat. All the bedrooms had AC, which we really appreciated during the extreme heat wave.
