Villa Bertagni

The owner knows the area inside out and is so kind. The room and shared spaces have gorgeous decor, and breakfast was tasty too. It feels like somewhere from a fairy tale.

Those two pools made it easy to spend the day unwinding, whether we were sunbathing or going for a swim. Breakfast was simple and comforting, with eggs, cheese, meats, crusty bread, fresh croissants, and smooth Italian coffee. Our ornate, cozy room had the feel of a duke's summer palace, and the whole villa is rich in history but still welcoming. The owner made us feel like friends. He shared local tips, booked excellent restaurants for us, and his cheerful breakfast briefings gave each day a fun, communal start. Villa Bertagni felt like stepping into a Renaissance novel, with a mix of elegance, hospitality, and thoughtful details. I’d happily return and recommend it to anyone looking for a special stay.

The one genuinely helpful part of our stay was the owner's decent advice on things to see nearby. As for the rest, this place felt like a tourist trap, and I’d advise others to avoid it. The breakfast was very mediocre, and the rooms smelled a little old and damp, though they may suit people who like antiques. If you get up “late,” at 9:30 a.m., your room won’t be cleaned and you won’t get breakfast. We found the villa so unwelcoming and depressing that we left a day early to carry on enjoying our holiday. Villa Bertagni was once an old Medici property with the potential to be magnificent. That former promise doesn’t match what we saw. The owner no longer seems to have the passion he had when he bought it, and the online photos don’t reflect reality. It felt as if the willingness to keep investing financially and physically in the garden and pool had faded. With only the bare minimum being done, the villa’s main attraction has fallen into natural decay: untended trees and bushes, cloudy pool water where you couldn’t see the bottom, an ignored fountain garden at the entrance, and weeds everywhere. P.S. I wouldn’t be surprised if the owner replies with some lame excuse instead of acknowledging the review and trying to improve the business.

We could hear how quiet it was at night, and sleeping there was perfect. The villa looks even more beautiful in person, with nature all around. Our room was lovely, and having it cleaned and the bed made while we ate breakfast was really convenient. Moshik is such a kind owner, always ready to help with whatever you need and make you feel at home. It was absolutely worth it. I hope I can visit again someday.
