Cisterna Nel Borgo

Marta and the staff at Cisterna nel Borgo were so welcoming and lovely. My wife and I had an awesome dinner there. We asked them to recommend every dish, and ended up eating some of the best pasta of our lives. Their previous Google Maps profile was deleted a few months ago, so don’t be put off by the small number of reviews so far. They’re all tradizione! 10/10.

The smiles, gracious service, and care they put into serving good food to everyone are what make this place so charming. We had a terrific dinner in Tuscany with our family, including our three-year-old and my mother, who needed gluten-free food. The two fennel dishes we ordered were delicious. I can’t do justice to the rest of the meal, it was such an Epicurean delight.

The place feels cozy and calming, and the staff are so lovely. The food is some of the best I’ve had in Italy, even after spending a lot of time here. Absolutely incredible restaurant, an easy five stars!

The tortelli Marta taught us to make, using her Nonna’s recipe, was the best stuffed pasta we’ve eaten in Italy. After cooking, we got to enjoy our dishes in a private meal in the Ristorante Cisterna nel Borgo dining room. What an experience, and one of the highlights of our trip. Marta welcomed us like old friends from the moment we arrived. She showed us special, authentic techniques and dishes that went well beyond the basic, so-so pasta we learned in a class in Bologna. She guided us through restaurant-quality dishes step by step and helped us improve our technique, so we can build on it and try different kinds of pasta at home. I’ll treasure this private cooking class. I can’t recommend it highly enough!
