Albergo Ristorante La Torretta

The late-night noise was the hardest part. People downstairs spoke loudly, and I had to call reception around 11 pm to politely ask them to quiet down. Restaurant noise continued past midnight, and with uninsulated floors, every step from guests upstairs echoed into my room. I could only sleep once everyone had settled, after midnight. The restaurant seemed good, busy on a Sunday night, and the food was tasty, but the place might work better as a restaurant alone. Room prices aren’t high, but you may not get much sleep unless you’re a night owl. I ended up at albergo ristorante La Torretta after car trouble on the highway led me to exit at Badia. Castiglione dei Pepoli was the next town, and they had one last room, number 6. It was tidy, clean, and odor-free, apart from a pillow that smelled of sebum through its clean cover. This is a common hotel problem, but owners should pay closer attention, wash pillows each time, and keep fresh ones for guests. I usually bring my own pillow, but the stop was unexpected. The owner was extremely nice and offered to pick me up where my car had trouble, though I managed to get it to the hotel myself. There was an enclosed parking lot, so I felt comfortable leaving my car and some luggage there. Someone kindly carried my suitcase upstairs. Supper was good, especially the tortellini in brodo. I usually don’t put pork in broth, but I think they did. I ordered panna cotta with mixed berry syrup, but the syrup tasted so artificial that I chose something else. The homemade mascarpone mousse was delicious. I have mixed feelings: the owner was gracious and willing to help, supper was good, and I’m not sure I’d have found a room on a Sunday night in an unfamiliar place. Still, the noise made it difficult to sleep.
