There are plenty of walkways to explore, an exhibition room upstairs, and toilets on site. Much of the old seating remains, along with part of the performance area, including a stage and a water area. This historic landmark in the city centre, not far from the main square, has been well preserved, though it's strange to see houses built all around its edge. The price is fair, and it's worth a visit.

Seeing a performance at Teatro Massimo Bellini in Catania was unforgettable. The theater's elegant architecture, amazing acoustics, and distinctive atmosphere are stunning. The artists were talented, and the staging was beautiful. Whether it's opera like Aida, Norma, or Carmen, ballet, or a symphonic concert, each show feels special. A real cultural gem and a highlight of visiting Catania. Highly recommended if you love music and theater.

Entry costs 8 euro per adult and 4 euro for students. There are signs in Italian and English, but not many, so you mostly wander around and may come across bathrooms and rooms displaying old photos or art installations without explanations. Catania has lots of ancient buildings, including this Greek-Roman amphitheatre dating to the 2nd century AD. It seated 7k viewers and has a second, smaller amphitheatre. Both were later used as ground for a housing colony, as a 1930 photo shows. Some houses are still built over the amphitheatre grounds, alongside ongoing excavation and restoration work.

Made from dark Etna basalt, the Greek - Roman Theatre feels atmospheric and cut off from the city noise. You enter through an ordinary city doorway and find an ancient arena hidden among modern buildings. The apartment balconies hanging over the 2nd-century ruins are surreal, and photos don't really capture them or the underground river rushing beneath the stage. It's a striking reminder that Catania built itself on top of its own history, and a must-see.

A quiet, easy-to-reach archaeological surprise tucked among ordinary buildings near Piazza Duomo. It doesn't take long to see, and it's a real hidden gem.
