We came across this place while walking, even though it wasn't on our plan. The building and courtyard garden are lovely. There's not a lot to see, but it's well worth a quick stop.
There are local cafes worth checking out near Villa Cerami, and the walk along Piazza s francesco d assisi is lovely, with historic buildings all around. Villa Cerami itself is a historic place, and students have classes there.
The courtyard at Villa Cerami is quiet and beautiful, a lovely place to meet or relax after class. When we visited, students were studying in the classrooms, which were made from a former carriage house. It must be a pleasure to study in such a historic setting. Before you enter the forecourt, there's a Baroque portico with lots of sculptural detail and the Cerami coat of arms. The villa was built in the 18th century as the residence of the Rosso di Cerami family, then passed through other owners. In 1881 it hosted the royals Humbert and Margherita. The University of Catania later bought it, and today it houses the faculty of Law.
The interior is breathtaking, and the villa's courtyard, garden, and terraces are beautiful too. It's now home to the Law School. If you can, visit, and you can also get a guide to explain its history. Highly recommended.
A quiet, pleasant spot to relax, with no cafes or crowds around.
