We were a family of six across three generations, and everyone enjoyed relaxing here in the quiet after busy days out. It worked well as a base for exploring the Ionian Coast, with everything within an hour’s drive. The view and the feeling of getting away from it all are what make the stay special. The rooms are basic but clean and tidy, and the menu is limited but adequate, with well-cooked food. Breakfast was plentiful. This isn’t a hotel, so don’t expect hotel-style service or a wide food selection, though the staff were fantastic: they arranged and negotiated taxis when we needed them and organized free food for a trip to Etna. It’s in a good spot, within easy driving distance of the airport, though planes fly overhead, and it’s on a main road. Once inside the gate, it feels like an escape. Worth considering if you want something different from a usual hotel. I’d stay again if I return to the area.

We loved the old-world charm of this winery, just 15 minutes from Catania Airport. We wandered the grounds, picked red oranges from the trees, and they were the best I’ve ever tasted. It was a bit chilly in April, but the pool was open. The winery wasn’t open the day after Easter, but they let us sit inside and enjoy their fantastic Etna wines. I’ll be back, and you should add this place to your list. JZ

We only had one night here before flying home, but we wished we could have stayed longer. The pool was a big hit with the kids, and we also loved dinner at the restaurant, the wine, and hearing about the estate’s history. The grounds are beautiful, and the hotel’s 200-year-old winery restaurant makes it a lovely place to unwind. It’s close to the airport, and communication was great. We got a warm welcome, and Danylo and the team were ready to help with everything we needed. The whole family would love to come back one day.

The planes overhead are noisy at all hours, though I knew about that before coming. Summer weekends bring another problem: a nearby club plays music until around 5:30 a.m., so avoid this place if you need sleep. The rooms could use a better clean and a quick sweep, and breakfast needs improvement too.

I only spent one night at Tenuta del Gelso, but it was such a lovely stay. Arriving by car through the beautiful grounds made a great first impression. Danylo at reception was especially hospitable and made everything nicer. He’s also a very talented musician! I’d be happy to come back.
