Terrazza Sangiuliano was a real disappointment. Avoid this hotel if you may need to cancel because of a serious family illness or death. My father died just days before our planned stay, and I’m writing this with a broken heart. Ryanair and Wizz Air responded compassionately and refunded our flights after the tragedy. The hotel showed no empathy at all. I emailed them and Booking.com made official inquiries too, but they ignored both. At first I wasn’t even asking for a full refund. I only asked to move the trip so I could still make my 70-year-old mother’s dream come true after we had finished mourning. All we got was silence, which felt greedy. It’s heartbreaking that in 2026 a business could put the profit from one booking ahead of a family grieving a death. If you want to stay somewhere that treats guests like people instead of cash, avoid this hotel. Their “hospitality” is a lie.

Terrazza Sangiuliano is well placed for exploring Catania on foot, though parking was difficult, as it can be in many cities. The price felt fair, and the host was friendly and helpful. I stayed there in August 2024. The old building has a nice overall feel, while the rooms are modernly furnished and equipped. My room was spacious enough. The balcony view wasn't great, but the rooftop terrace offered a much better one.

We found the room very clean when we arrived, and its city center location was ideal. The service was good too. The owner replied quickly when we communicated on WhatsApp. I recommend this place.

The apartment's central location was a plus, and the room was comfortable, especially the pillows. We had a bad experience with the staff. A gentleman had promised to collect us from the airport but never came. He said his car had broken down, then when we met him, he said it was too late because we arrived at midnight. They also tried to sell us breakfast, which was a poor selection of pastries from the cafe opposite. The walls seemed paper thin, and we could hear practically everything from the other rooms. I couldn't sleep in the morning because of constant conversations, including the owner's. I found that disrespectful. We asked for just 15 extra minutes after checkout and the owner made a big drama of it. While we were still packing, he and the cleaner unlocked our door and rushed us. Don't expect help storing a bag after checkout, even for an hour. They refused when we asked.

The room we stayed in was extremely dirty, with dirt, dust, and long black hairs across the floor. Finding the hotel was confusing even after the owner sent directions. The photos don't show the whole arrival: you have to pass through three locked doors, then climb four flights of stairs or take the creepiest elevator I've ever seen. There was nobody at the front desk, and we never saw any staff. The only time they contacted us was to ask for the city tax. It felt very unwelcoming and unsafe. For a first trip to Sicily, I'd suggest staying elsewhere. Unless you've researched Catania deeply and are especially interested in the city, I wouldn't stay here. This was one of the worst hotels I've ever stayed in.
