The main problem was the cold. In mid-October the house had no heat at all, and at night it dropped to 4-5°C. The radiators, floors, walls, and bathrooms were freezing, with no warmth left anywhere. We froze all night. As an Alpini mountain infantryman I’m used to a lot, but this was unacceptable when we were paying for the stay. Heating systems can fail, but guests should be told beforehand. Our room arrangements were also poor. In two single rooms we had to sleep on cots with bad mattresses, although there was a huge double bed next to each room. The host said those beds weren’t ready. Despite our reservation, they clearly weren’t prepared for us. We waited about 10 minutes in the car at the locked gate before someone opened it, and the intercom made no sound. Breakfast was a few little cellophane-wrapped pastries like you’d get at a budget hotel, with jam but no bread. Coffee and tea were self-service. The €35 price seems questionable for what was provided. There were a couple of positives: it’s a charming old house, which we usually like, and the welcome was friendly.
