Hotel San Valier

The chairlift is 200m away, which makes this a great base for a ski or snowboard camp. The facilities were good and clean, and the staff were friendly and very helpful. Dinner was okay. I’d have liked more variety at breakfast, with fewer sweets and more local food.

The wooden details inside are beautiful and gave the hotel an elegant feel, while the outside has a modern look. We also made good use of the pool, sauna and hot tub, and the mountain views were lovely. It's close to the slopes and a few grocery stores. The staff were polite, capable and really nice. Some spoke little English, but we always managed to sort things out, and I appreciated that a few knew phrases in my native language. The meals featured typical Italian dishes, and even as a picky eater I always left full. I also liked the effort to be more sustainable, with towels changed every two days, sheets every three, and bathroom items in ecological packaging. A recycling bin in the room, at least for plastic, would be useful. We stayed five days, but our sheets weren't changed at all, and the towels were changed only once, on a day we weren't expecting. My towel from home was mixed up with the hotel's and disappeared. The hotel also feels a little smaller in person than it does in the photos.

The rooms were comfortable and clean, though they could have been larger. We also enjoyed the coffee at breakfast and in the bar, and the food was good. Staff were very friendly, and the location made it easy to reach the ski and skating facilities. Dinner often took longer than we would have liked. That was the only drawback we noticed, and we felt the stay was good value for the money.

The staff were very kind, and the rooms were cleaned well each day. For the price, being only 200 metres from the first ski lift is good value. The food and breakfast were poor, though, and the relaxation area was really small. The services aren't the best you can get, which is why I'd rate it four stars in line with what we paid.
