We booked months ahead for three people, but only the day before departure were we told the room was for two and that a camp bed would be added. On arrival, we found out ourselves that the apartment was in a restricted traffic zone (ZTL) and needed a permit. They’d told us on the phone we had parking, but there was none, and not even space to unload our bags. The apartment was in a pitiful state, to put it politely. The bathroom was so dirty we had to clean it ourselves, even though we’d paid a €60 cleaning fee. The camp bed they’d mentioned was filthy, as was every room, and there was no way a 15-year-old boy could sleep on it without back pain or other problems. We asked to change rooms and were allowed to do so for the first week, on the condition that we return to the awful original room for week two. The second room turned out even worse. Every room had greasy doors that made you feel sick just touching or opening them. The plates, pots, cutlery and whole kitchen were just as bad. The third bed was now a sofa bed instead of a camp bed, but underneath it were dirty tissues and snack wrappers. They wanted another €60 for cleaning, which seemed to be money they pocketed without doing the work. We decided to stay only one week and ask for a refund for the second. Did that go smoothly? Obviously not. They arrogantly claimed we hadn’t paid part of the deposit. We spent days showing proof of payment while the owner wouldn’t answer the phone and her reception team was unfriendly and very rude. We did get the refund eventually, but they treated us so arrogantly that we felt like we were the ones in the wrong. The staff were rude because a man in his fifties insulted a woman and shouted at her, then picked up a chair and slammed it against the wall, all because he wanted to prove we hadn’t paid. I think that says enough. We’d also paid for air conditioning, only to discover when we arrived that it had been broken for years. We couldn’t even keep the window open because it faced the communal garbage cans, so the smell and heat were awful. We paid for a week of constant stress and terrible treatment. If you want a relaxing holiday, I wouldn’t recommend this experience. P.S. I’ve just seen that some 5-star reviews were written by staff members. Needless to say, I reported them for conflict of interest.
