The mountain setting made for a pleasant, decent stay. Be ready to communicate in Italian, though. It gives the place a genuinely local Italian feel.

The inn is simple, in keeping with the place's original structure, and offers a calm stay that suits the spiritual feel of the nearby Sanctuary. It's a good fit for families, children, worshippers, and pilgrims. The staff were friendly and efficient. The food was excellent, with healthy Ligurian dishes often given a twist using specialties from elsewhere in Italy. Everything was extremely clean, and prices were unusually fair and reasonable. Highly recommended.

I went to the Sanctuary in the afternoon, then found the Pilgrim's House shut when I got there at 5 p.m. At Bar S. Giorgio, part of the Madonna della Guardia complex, the door was practically slammed in my face. Nobody even asked if I needed help or apologized for the closing time. "Da o strixeu," the restaurant and bar next door, was closed as well. With so many pilgrims there on a weekday, I think at least one of the two places should have been open.
