Marghaerita B&B

The room was very clean and tidy inside, and had been recently renovated. The outside hasn't been renovated, but that didn't bother me. It's just steps from the town's main square, and free street parking was easy to find nearby. Breakfast is included at the bar in Piazza Nettuno, where you get a cappuccino and brioche.

The location is handy: Cetraro's main square is only steps away, the beaches are under a 10-minute drive, and two large supermarkets are 6-7 minutes away by car. Downtown there's also a small delicatessen and several bars. The room was clean, nicely furnished, and had a large, comfortable bathroom. The price was reasonable, especially if you prefer driving to the beach over walking 10 minutes to your beachfront home. The mattresses and pillows were extremely uncomfortable. We all woke with neck and back pain, so they really need replacing. It's a small investment for a business like this. The window frames were another issue, though less serious: one set has very old, damaged wood and thin single glazing, and the other has aluminum frames with single glazing. Modern, high-performance PVC frames would be a simple improvement. Breakfast at the bar downstairs was also confusing. We were charged an extra €1.20 for barley coffee because it wasn't on the menu, even though cappuccino was included and surely costs more. I couldn't understand the reason, and it was terribly awkward. On top of that, we basically didn't get one out of three drinks. Still, it was a positive experience overall.

You wouldn't guess from the outside, but step into the room and it comes as a surprise. The furnishings are new, everything is clean, and it's fully equipped, from water and pastries to a hairdryer and air conditioning. Breakfast is self-service, and they also give you discount coupons for a café near the B&B. We got a friendly welcome. A well-earned five stars.
