Le Vecchie Cantine

We stayed here for one night at the start of our Tuscany tour, and it was superb value. From our large, comfortable, well-equipped first-floor room, we could see a little village square and countryside in the distance. We slept well. The restaurant has a rustic feel, and dinner was absolutely delicious. Breakfast was just as good, and we came back to eat there again a week later. Every staff member we met was charming and helpful. I’d read comments about language difficulties, but communicating was fun and easy. One parking detail could be clearer: there’s a private lot not far from the hotel, though the town’s free municipal car park is another option, with a fairly steep climb up to the hotel. I’d highly recommend the hotel and restaurant.

At one point, our finished plates sat on the table for almost ten minutes. Service was slow, and when I questioned whether my carbonara had been overcooked, they argued with me, even though there were pieces of egg in it.

We had an excellent meal, starting with a plate of cheese and ham, both very good. After that came truffle pasta and steak tartare with burrata and truffle, all excellent. The restaurant is friendly and has a pleasant terrace. In summer, it’s fully shaded by the buildings in the evening, which is handy when it’s hot.

Dinner here had some of the best atmosphere and service we’ve experienced while staying nearby. It was a bit of a drive from our hotel, but absolutely worth it. I’d love to come back on an evening when the weather allows for outdoor seating. Highly recommended!
