We loved seeing Tuscany from this quieter, less touristy spot. The place is beautiful and peaceful up in the hills, and makes a good base for Pisa, Florence, or the beaches. A small village nearby has what you need to get the day started, from a lazy coffee and croissant to basic local shopping. The host also pointed us to a spot for pasta with truffles that we would have walked right past otherwise. What a dinner, and she had ideas for things to discover, too.

We spent evenings in the little garden, talking under the stars with local wine in hand. The place has a pool and a kitchen for making breakfast or dinner, complete with a moka coffee maker. Such a lovely setting in the Tuscan countryside, run by people who clearly put their hearts into it.

The owners can show you a Tuscany full of tucked-away treasures. Try Vitalba, we liked it a lot. Buon Appetito. You can have espresso at the village bar, lunch at a local butcher, then dinner in a Tuscan osteria with no tourists around. The sea is half an hour away by car, and Volterra is an hour away. This place won't suit everyone, but it has a special atmosphere. You can hear the silence, swim with a view of the hills, and sleep in a lovely Tuscan bedroom.
