The setting is what first won me over: a remote spot on a green hill, with lovely views across the valley and lake. The gardens have botanical herbs and old trees, and there are plenty of places to sit outside, including gorgeous pools with panoramic views and a cocktail bar beside them. The building has a picturesque, historic feel, with old wooden doors and distinctive brick walls that make it feel like an ancient castle. Inside, though, the rooms were clean, elegant, and freshly painted, which made them feel bright and fresh. My friends and I booked several rooms for one night as part of a special weekend celebration, and the place exceeded my expectations from the moment we arrived. Patrizia at reception greeted us so sweetly and shared several great recommendations for local places to visit. I’d highly recommend Castello San Giuseppe.

Completely not family-friendly. We booked one night and specified that we had a one-year-old, so they would provide a crib. The crib was broken, loud music played until 2 a.m., the fridge didn’t work, and in the morning there was no running water. We wanted to leave at 7 a.m., but nobody was at reception and we couldn’t find any staff until almost 8. The castle was locked, so we couldn’t even get to the parking area to pack our things. What if there had been an emergency? Worst hotel experience.

The atmosphere is unbelievable and the service fantastic. Napoleon stayed here! The food was amazing, and the views across the valleys and castles were extraordinary.

The view is nice, but the rooms are old, dusty, and have insects. They need renovation urgently. There was water leaking from the tub and other problems throughout, and the place needs investment and improvement, from the mattress, which had only a sheet and no blanket, to the tiny 14-inch TV. It’s supposed to be a castle, but it feels more like a monastery. Breakfast was poor, nothing much to say about it. It rained, and the way was flooded. The service was so bad, with the response being, “Yes, it’s the rain.” Be careful.
