The moldy, musty smell is really strong. There’s mold on the windows, walls and parts of the roof structure, and the gas heater in the kitchen puts out a very high concentration of fine dust particles. This house is completely unsuitable for anyone with allergies. The beds are terrible, and both the TV and kitchen are very small.

We stayed in the smaller annex from August 11th to 15th. The three bedrooms each have an en-suite bathroom, plus there’s a common room and kitchen. The furnishings were adequate, and there were sun loungers with cushions and a ping-pong table. The house also has a washing machine, toaster, dishwasher and refrigerator, though there aren’t many deep plates. It was clean when we arrived, and our first impression was good. The GPS brought us down an inconvenient dirt track, but we found the main gravel road to the house afterward. The heat was hard to deal with, 30-36°C during our stay. The home had no insulation or air conditioning and barely cooled down at night. The mosquitoes were worse still. We’ve never had so many bites. It seems to be a known issue, since there were electric traps, fly swatters and spray, but they hardly helped. On departure we were charged almost €200 for taxes, electricity, hot water and cleaning.

The cottage is lovely, with spacious bedrooms that each have their own shower and toilet. There were a lot of flies, though, and the unpaved road to get there made our car look a mess straight away.

It feels wonderfully quiet and rural, surrounded by nature, but the well-equipped beaches of Isola Verde, supermarkets and the nightlife in Sottomarina di Chioggia are only a few minutes away by car. You can also get around by public transport or rent a bicycle. And Venice is very close too.
