Piccola Venezia Room

We never even got to stay there. The staff were rude and dishonest. We booked at 16.45 for that same evening in low season, then at 16.50 got a message saying check-in closed at 6pm. At 16.51 we called straight away to say the long drive and heavy traffic meant we couldn’t arrive until 9pm. The person who answered was very rude. Apparently the “curfew” couldn’t be changed, so we cancelled and had to find somewhere else. Now they’ve charged us 80Euros as a penalty, even though they chose not to honor the booking and we cancelled promptly. I understand cancellation penalties, since hotels can’t always fill a room, but sometimes an exception is needed. We would gladly have taken the room if someone had been willing to check us in at a reasonable 9pm. We cancelled within minutes of booking, through no fault of our own, and shouldn’t have to pay.

Piccola Venezia is a white marble masterpiece, with metal, brick and wood tucked into an old fishing town full of character. The sunsets are National Geographic quality, and the views are memorable. The food is unbelievable, and the locals are unbelievably friendly. This waterfront town is just before Venice, with hundreds of fishing boats and seafood restaurants. The old buildings need some care, but the place is a diamond in the rough. It’s inexpensive too. Put it on your bucket list.

The accommodation was comfortable and the location was good. Check-in and checkout hours are limited, there’s no car parking on site, and the public parking is about a 10-minute walk away. They accept visiting pets.

Watch out, check-in is only 16-18. If you get stuck on the highway, you’re out of luck and your money is gone for nothing.
