The setting alone made the day special, with some of the finest scenery Calabria has to offer. We were welcomed by Gianni & Stefania at their lovely agriturismo, and while waiting for lunch, we could swim in the pool among the trees. Stefania’s cooking was incredible, all traditional dishes made with local ingredients, which Gianni introduced to us. It’s well worth the trip, and we’d love to come back to Calabria and visit again.

We stayed last September and loved both the food and the hospitality. Five stars all the way.

Dinner is hard to put into words. Everything was homemade, with generous portions and heavenly flavors, and the service was attentive in a way you don’t often find. Breakfast was fresh, varied, and plentiful too. The owners were extremely kind, and we had a great time. The place is quiet and almost magical. It’s about a 15-minute drive to the beach, with beautiful scenery along the way. The pool is large, though the water felt cool to us. Our room was very clean and had air conditioning, but felt a bit cramped for four people.

A'Sena Runcatini is a blessing. Words like “enchanting” or “heavenly” don’t come close to describing this sublime, energizing place, where you can stop the clocks and cut the phone lines. For a few days, even just one, you can leave behind everything that matters in the world of the living and the dead. You feast on pork, wild boar, rich sauces and gravies, and all kinds of local produce, then wash it down with nectar fit for the gods, as if it came from Aphrodite’s cup. Once home, you’re back to trudging through the squalor of everyday survival, to borrow Mr. G’s words, but that doesn’t erase the time you spent there. Keep the resorts, equipped beaches, all-inclusive deals, sea views and aperitifs. I don’t know what to do with any of them anymore. I’ll be going to Stefania and Giovanni for the rest of my life. P.S. Most importantly, our Edo is at home there. You know who you are, and you understand.

The sea is less than a 15-minute drive away, and there are trails and plenty of local attractions nearby. Back at the beautiful farmhouse, surrounded by nature, Giovanni and Stefania put real passion into looking after the place. The pool is lovely, and the food is excellent. Giovanni makes the cured meats himself, and the local caciocavallo is delicious. Stefania prepares the main courses with real skill.
