The only real plus was being close to the train station and port. Otherwise this place was a huge letdown, and the communication from management was abysmal. The most serious problem was the main door to the three "suites": it could be deadbolted from outside, but the broken knob meant we couldn't unlock it from inside. We were trapped in the building. The man who answered the phone couldn't understand what was happening, even after I told him to check the security camera, and then he hung up. My email to support got no help either. After more than an hour, we called the fire brigade. They were about to break in when another couple staying in a suite arrived just in time and let us out. Totally unacceptable. We booked through Expedia, where breakfast was advertised as included. When I emailed to ask about it, they replied to that message, but not the one about us being trapped. They said breakfast was no longer included. Thanks for that. The room was sparse, with a desk and mini fridge. The so-called stocked minibar was a bottle or two of water, a kettle and coffee maker, plus a drawer INFESTED WITH ANTS feeding on opened sugar packets and loose tea bags. The shower had mold, and hot water was unreliable. You get about 30 seconds of hot water, and if anyone else is using it, there's none for you. The room was rough overall. Walls were scuffed, cracked and marred, and the sheets, pillowcases and towels were stained, had small holes, or were getting threadbare. The soundproofing claim is hard to believe: you hear neighbors using fixtures, flushing toilets and moving around. There's a small balcony facing the street, which isn't much of a feature unless you need to smoke outside. The place was misrepresented, and with management communicating so badly, I'd stay somewhere else.

The owner was especially helpful during our two nights before a cruise. He brought fresh bakery items for breakfast each morning, arranged transport to the cruise terminal at the last minute, and was only a message away if we needed anything. The rooms were modern, had good AC and lovely bathrooms with quality toiletries. We also liked sitting on the terrace and watching people go by. Bottled water was provided, as you can't drink the water here. There are plenty of good restaurants within walking distance and a small market right across the street. The owner was very nice, and we'd stay again on our next cruise.

A pleasant stay, and we'll definitely return. The local owner was attentive and made sure we were looked after. He brought cappuccinos, croissants and pastries before our departure the next morning, then arranged a taxi to the cruise port. The rooms were perfect, and there are great restaurants nearby.

I think it may have changed hands. When I booked a year ago, the reviews were great and the host had been so helpful. This time the blind shutter wouldn't close, there was no bottle of water on arrival, and the breakfast that used to be described as delivered to the room was now just a coffee and croissant at a cafe down the road. I also got no help arranging a taxi to the port and had to phone for check-in details. I won't use it again, which is a shame because I often stayed here before cruises.

RIVIERA SUITES was a perfect locally owned place to stay before our cruise. Federico messaged that morning to confirm, then met us on the walk from the train station and helped with our bags. He was friendly and hospitable, and made us feel at home. The hotel felt very secure, with three keys for three separate doors before reaching our room. Our unit had just been remodeled, so everything was new and clean, and the air conditioner kept it comfortable. In the morning Federico brought fresh cappuccinos and pastries to our room and arranged a cab to the cruise port. We'd stay here again if we return to cruise port.
