Turano Resort

I had a meal with friends at the restaurant attached to the property. The food was pretty good and the service was excellent. The place was clean and welcoming, with a lovely view across Lake Turano toward the landscape of Castel di Tora.

The place itself is beautiful and has a splendid view of Lake Turano, but it felt abandoned. If it were fully running, it could really be a gem. I started calling at the end of June to book three rooms for three couples. After a number of calls and attempts, and dealing with a rather confused operator, I finally paid a deposit for one night. The day before we arrived, I called to confirm check-in and was told it would be from 5:00 PM. I’d expected at least 1:00 PM, so that was the first problem. When we got to Turano Resort, the situation was confusing, almost Kafkaesque. The owner had apparently opened the property just before we arrived. The rooms weren’t ready, nobody could tell us which rooms we were meant to have, and they were being prepared while we waited. The staff, a woman and her son, were more than helpful, but had been hired as needed. There was no air conditioning, and the boiler had only been switched on when we entered, so there wasn’t hot water at first. We tried to take it in stride since we were three couples who were friends, though it would have been easy to get very angry. Another couple staying there had the same problems and did get angry. Breakfast the next day was a coffee and a packaged croissant, with another €10 charged on top of the already undeserved €130 room rate. It’s a real shame, because the property has so much potential.

We stayed here at the end of January and had a wonderful time. The staff were extremely helpful, and our room was fantastic, comfortable, and clean. With the magnificent view, it felt as if we were right by the lake. We also ate dinner at the restaurant on site. The food was high quality and the portions were generous. I’d recommend it for couples.

I first came across Lake Turano by chance and fell in love with it. Every return visit feels different, and discovering this resort has made it even more enjoyable. Though it only opened recently, the hotel is well organized. The staff are knowledgeable and professional, and they make sure you have what you need and look after you. The view is hard to put into words. I slept with the curtain open so I could enjoy every moment of the view from my room. The restaurant has an excellent menu, especially for people with food intolerances: everything is lactose-free, and there’s a wide choice of gluten-free dishes. There are lots of lovely nearby villages to explore, including Castel di Tora, one of Italy’s most beautiful villages. I’d recommend the resort to couples, solo travelers, and families.
