Le Stanze del Lago Lake view

We stayed one night at Le Stanze del Lago Lake View with my boyfriend and family, and it was a relaxing, delightful visit. We had two rooms, both with lovely Lake Como views. My room was spacious and well equipped, with a stunning lake view, and Andrea was quick to answer my messages and questions. The hotel sits among picturesque scenery while being right in the middle of Como’s bustle, with plenty of restaurants nearby. Check-in was easy. I highly recommend it.

The rooms were spacious and clean, though mine faced the road and there wasn’t really a view. I stayed on the second floor beside a busy intersection, so it was noisy, but earplugs made it fine. There’s no early check-in or luggage storage at the property, although luggage storage is available about 2-3 minutes away. This isn’t a hotel so much as an apartment converted into a professional AirBNB. Its main appeal is location and easy transport: it’s right beside Como Lago train station, handy for arrivals from Malpensa-Sarrono-Como Lago. Buses to Varenna are available, and the ferry terminal and furnicular are close enough. Rapid-service tickets to the communes can only be bought in person at the counters on the day of travel. I might stay again and would recommend it to someone on a budget.

The building’s lift smelled awful, and the carpet in it was badly covered. The room itself was very basic, and the promised lake view was barely there. I had to step onto the small balcony and lean over just to catch a glimpse. The sofa bed was the smallest I’ve ever seen and surely not suitable for sleeping, and its sheets were stained. There was no direct contact with the hosts. You have to call a number to have them open the main door remotely. I was very disappointed they hadn’t mentioned the roadworks right outside, as I would have booked somewhere else. A bus station is around the corner and a train station across the road, which also meant noise early in the morning.
