Hostel New Generation Hostel Lake Como

We'd come all the way from Switzerland, so being turned away with no alternative was especially frustrating. We'd booked a 7-bed dorm through Hostelworld, but the listing nowhere said it was mixed male and female. When we arrived, the staff were extremely rude and unhelpful. We said we weren't comfortable sharing with men, but they refused to offer another room or any other option. They also kept our money, even though the booking clearly didn't match what was advertised. That's not acceptable. Travellers should be able to expect basic transparency and respect. I'm very disappointed with both the hostel staff and the information from Hostelworld. I won't book here again, and I hope they improve their communication and customer service.

The location was okay and the staff were fine, but nothing exceptional. I can't recommend the hostel based on my stay in the 16-bed room, even though it sounds like others have had better experiences in some of the smaller rooms. The beds were very dirty. Sheets were provided but left off, so the mattress covers were visible and covered in hair and dirt. The rest of the room was okay, though I wouldn't call it clean. The bathrooms had no soap or paper towels. I understand not providing towels, but hand soap should always be there.

The facilities were good, and the atmosphere was pleasant. What made my stay great, though, was the amazing staff. Everyone was kind, friendly, and helpful, and their hospitality made me feel at home.

I stayed for 8 nights and was completely satisfied. The place was clean and cozy, and the staff were friendly. A perfect spot for a comfortable stay in Como. I'll definitely come back 🥰
