The Convo Lake Como

Getting the cancellation sorted out was confusing and far more complicated than it needed to be. Whenever there was an issue, we were sent back and forth between Booking.com and the partner provider instead of getting direct help. Calls went unanswered, and we couldn’t get through to a supervisor. Communication from the property was poor the whole way through.

The hallway lights didn’t work, so we had to use our phone flashlights to get through the windowless corridors at any time of day. The patio stayed locked even though the weather was good, and the advertised breakfast wasn’t available. What they call a hotel lobby is a shared kitchen. The whole setup felt more like sharing an Airbnb than staying in a hotel. The room was cramped and cluttered with leftover fans and AC units from summer. We were told we couldn’t use the AC units, but they took up a lot of space. One window seemed broken, with a bedsheet and Velcro covering the damage. When we asked, the explanation about summer temperatures didn’t make sense. There also weren’t basic hotel things like coffee, a fridge, or bathroom toiletries. The bathroom was filthy, with thick mold on the vents, and the shower needs regrouting. The rooms looked nothing like the booking site photos: they were dark, gloomy, got little sunset light, and had no city or lake view. We expected daily cleaning. On day two they said there wouldn’t be any, then the cleaning they promised for day three didn’t happen either. The service was basically nonexistent. I’m honestly surprised this place has the rating it does. Maybe something changed recently, but this was easily one of the worst hotels I’ve stayed in. It was dirty and disappointing, and even basic things like electricity and cleaning weren’t handled properly. I’d avoid it. If you want somewhere cheaper, you could stay a bit outside Como and use the buses or taxis to get around.

Everyone at the Convo was so friendly and accommodating. Our room and the service were perfect, and we had an incredible stay. I’ll definitely consider coming back.

The location was handy, right in Como and close to the lake. But the room we got was nothing like the Booking.com photos, and we felt misled. The bed was firm and uncomfortable, and the bathroom looked decades old, like it hadn’t been updated since the 1980s. There was only one bathroom photo online, and it looked much nicer than ours. We’d booked a two-night stay at The Convo through booking.com. At check-in, the receptionist told us our room was in another building and walked us down the street to what felt more like a guesthouse. It was part of a suite, with a short hallway and a shared bathroom between two rooms. She said nobody would be in the other room. If we’d had to share the bathroom with other guests, we would have left for another hotel. I raised the mismatch with the receptionist and manager. They were nice, but said the separate guesthouse rooms all had old bathrooms and they couldn’t offer us a nicer one. I’m not sure the receptionist understood when I said the online pictures had given us the wrong impression. I wouldn’t recommend staying here, and we won’t be back.
