We had a lovely Calabrian holiday. The food was great, the beach was quiet, and the staff were friendly and responsive. There were fun games and activities, plus wonderful Italian music and dancing. Itaca site’s buildings weren’t very new, but they were well maintained. If you’re driving from Bari, stop at the safari on the way to the resort. It was quite remarkable.

The rooms were okay for a budget stay, but at 1000 euros for 6 nights full board I’m sure I could have found somewhere better. The food was mediocre, and they’d cleared and packed it away by 9.20pm. The restaurant staff need a lot of training. Three waiters hurried past me while rushing to pack up and clock off. Reception also needs customer care training. They didn’t speak English well, and nobody explained anything about the resort when we arrived. It’s an old, fun waterpark, but it needs maintenance and upgrades.

I really enjoyed my holiday and never had a dull moment. There were activities almost every hour, like water aerobics and tennis, with an instructor waiting in case someone needed a partner, so people could stay entertained. The sea was clean and beautiful, and I didn’t mind that the sandy part was only around the sunbeds and extended about 2-3 meters from shore. The hotel grounds and pools were always clean, and the food was AMAZING. Staff and animators were friendly and helpful, though only the animators spoke English; everyone else spoke Italian. The beds and mattresses weren’t the best, but I still slept quite comfortably and never woke up tired.

This holiday is horrible. It’s 200 kilometers from the airport and 500 meters from a mini market. HORRIBLE!
